Cloudflare CEO warns AI bots will generate more web traffic than humans by 2027
March 20, 2026DoorDash just gave its army of Dashers a fresh way to make money without hauling another bag of takeout. The company announced Tasks, short paid activities that Dashers can knock out between deliveries or whenever they have a few spare minutes. Businesses get fast, scalable snapshots of what is actually happening on the ground, from shelf stock to entrance layouts.
The idea grew out of problems DoorDash has solved for years, such as locating tricky drop-off spots or confirming whether a bakery is open. Now other companies in retail, insurance, hospitality and technology can tap the same network of more than 8 million Dashers who cover almost anywhere in the United States. Dashers have already finished over 2 million tasks since 2024, showing the model works at scale.
📸 Simple jobs that deliver useful data 🤖
Typical Tasks include taking real photos of restaurant dishes to update menus, photographing a hotel entrance so future drivers know exactly where to go, or even helping an autonomous vehicle get unstuck. Pay shows up front and depends on how much effort each activity takes. Ethan Beatty, general manager of DoorDash Tasks, explained that the goal is to help more businesses understand real-world conditions while giving Dashers flexible earning options beyond delivery.
A new standalone Tasks app takes things further by asking users to film everyday actions, such as loading a dishwasher or folding laundry, or to record themselves speaking in another language. This footage helps AI and robotics systems learn how the physical world actually works. Similar data-collection efforts already power improvements in mapping and navigation tools used across the industry.
💰 Flexible earnings meet growing demand for real-world data
The program arrives at a moment when companies need accurate, up-to-date information about physical locations and human behaviors to train better models. DoorDash already partners with players in multiple sectors and plans to roll out more task types and expand to additional countries. For now Tasks and the companion app are live in select U.S. markets, but not in California, New York City, Seattle or Colorado.
Dashers can find these opportunities inside the main Dasher app or through the new Tasks app. The setup keeps earning simple and upfront, which matches the flexible lifestyle many workers already enjoy with DoorDash. Whether it is snapping a quick photo or recording a short video, DoorDash Tasks turns spare time into paid work while feeding valuable data back to businesses that need it. The question now is how quickly other platforms will follow suit.
