Character.ai, or c.ai for short, uses advanced deep learning and expansive language models to allow users to create chatbots that behave like unique characters to generate human-like text responses and engage in contextual conversations.
Developed by former Google LaMDA engineers Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, the tool lets users craft unique personalities for their virtual characters, set specific parameters for their behavior, and then share these characters with the community for others to interact with. These characters can be based on fictional characters or celebrities, or be completely original.
Character.ai allows for various uses, such as assisting with creative writing or being used in a text-based adventure game. It is also possible to have group chats involving multiple characters conversing with each other and the user at once.
The tool also allows users to rate the responses generated by a character, thus providing feedback to affect the behavior of the specific character and the overall behavioral selection of the AI. And if a user wants the AI to generate a new response, they can do that as well by clicking the right arrow or swiping left in the mobile app.
