Generate 3D objects, animations, and textures using prompts

Spline AI

Spline AI brings the power to the 3rd dimension. In other words, it’s a tool that lets you generate objects, animations, and textures using prompts. Like Midjourney or DALL-E, except that the end result would come in 3D.

As that’s the case with other generative AI tools, this one also lets you go beyond the initial result. So, once after the first prompt, you can continue chatting with Spline to modify objects, apply materials, add lighting, and more.

In addition to letting you do it “all alone,” the tool also comes with teamwork support. This, in turn, allows you to collaborate with your teammates so that all of you can watch your creations come to life in real time.

Finally, as we’ve noted above, you can also use Spline to create textures for your objects and instantly apply them.

As of September 2023, the service is still in the early phases of development, but it’s definitely promising. Check it out.

Video Overview ▶️

What are the key features? ⭐

  • Create 3D objects with prompts: No need for some expensive and complicated software when AI can do the hard work for you. Simply ask, and you shall be served (with a 3D object).
  • Edit 3D objects: After you get the initial rendering, you can further fine-tune it by continuing to chat with Spline AI. For instance, you can apply materials and add lighting, if you fancy so.
  • Create textures: Plain 3D objects are nothing without a good texture. And so, Spline also lets you create textures with its tool. Again, all you have to do is describe what kind of texture you need - and it will create one for you.
  • Teamwork: Spline comes with built-in support for teamwork. No need to do it all alone when others can chip in.
  • Examples: If you're unsure what you can do exactly with Spline, you may want to check out some of the examples they provided. Some are really neat, and it's almost hard to believe they were made with text prompts.

Who is it for? 🤔

Spline is great for everyone delving into 3D graphics. It lets them speed up the time from the idea to the final render. It sure is not (yet) as powerful as other professional-grade tools, but it can definitely help with object and texture creation. Instead of starting from a blank slate, Spline begins with a prompt and returns results in mere seconds. Also, it could find its audience among the fans of 3D graphics who don't have the skill to design in 3rd dimension but would like to be able to come up with renders of their own.

Examples of what you can use it for 💭

  • Create 3D objects with a simple prompt
  • Equally easily create textures for those objects
  • Play around and create new stuff in 3D
  • Familiarize yourself with 3D graphics and, perhaps, score a new job

Pros & Cons ⚖️

  • Turns everyone into a 3D graphic designer
  • Lets you create textures with a simple text
  • Just browsing through provided examples is inspiring
  • Still in development, not ready for prime time

FAQs 💬

What is Spline AI mainly used for?
Spline AI creates 3D models from text prompts or 2D images. It helps users turn ideas into 3D objects fast, even without modeling experience.
Can beginners use Spline AI effectively?
Yes, the tool is designed to be intuitive and beginner-friendly. You just need to write a prompt or upload an image, and no prior 3D knowledge is required.
What kinds of inputs does the tool accept?
It supports text descriptions for text-to-3D and front-facing 2D images for image-to-3D. You can also combine text and images in one prompt for better control.
How many variants does a text prompt usually produce?
A text prompt generates four different image previews or variants. You select one to turn into a 3D mesh.
Can I improve or change a generated model?
Yes, the remix feature lets you reference previous generations to create new variants and refine results.
Where can I use the generated 3D models?
Models integrate into Spline scenes. You can export them for web embeds, Apple platforms via Swift/Xcode, or Android via Kotlin/APKs/AABs.
Do I need a powerful computer to run Spline AI Generate?
No, generation happens in the cloud. A standard device with a good internet connection works fine.
Is Spline AI different from older versions of Spline AI?
This version focuses on improved text-to-3D and image-to-3D capabilities, faster results, and better integration with the Spline editor.
What types of 3D objects work best with this tool?
It excels at stylized, cartoonish, or simple objects like characters, furniture, animals, or props. Complex realistic items might need extra refinement.
Can I build a personal collection of 3D assets?
Yes, you can generate and save models to create your own 3D library for future projects.
