Music streaming platform Deezer has launched a free online tool that lets users check if their playlists contain AI-generated music, regardless of which streaming service they use. The detector works across 20 major platforms and is available in 27 languages.
The move comes as Deezer’s data shows 43% of users switching from other streaming platforms already have AI music in their playlists. A survey of 9,000 people across eight countries found that 80% believe AI-generated music should be clearly labeled, while 73% want to know when streaming services recommend synthetic tracks.
The timing of this launch is significant for the music industry, which is grappling with an explosion of AI-generated content. Deezer reports receiving nearly 75,000 AI tracks daily – accounting for more than 44% of all daily music submissions to its platform. This flood of synthetic content raises concerns about artist compensation and the integrity of music discovery algorithms.
“By detecting and tagging AI generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer. “No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use.”

Deezer became the first streaming platform to explicitly tag AI-generated music in June 2025. Since then, the company has detected and tagged over 13.4 million AI tracks on its platform. Songs identified as AI-generated are automatically removed from algorithmic recommendations and excluded from editorial playlists.
The scale of AI music fraud is staggering. Deezer found that up to 85% of streams from fully AI-generated tracks were fraudulent in 2025. While AI music currently represents only 1-3% of total streams on Deezer, the company excludes fraudulent streams from royalty payments to protect legitimate artists.
The broader implications for the music industry are substantial. A study by CISAC and PMP Strategy suggests nearly 25% of creators’ revenues could be at risk by 2028, potentially amounting to €4 billion in lost income. This makes transparency tools like Deezer’s detector increasingly important for maintaining trust between platforms, artists, and listeners.
Deezer’s AI detection technology can identify music from popular generative models like Suno and Udio, with the ability to add detection for other tools as they emerge. The company has also developed systems that can detect AI-generated content without specific training datasets, setting what it calls an industry standard.
In a telling finding, 97% of survey respondents couldn’t distinguish between fully AI-generated music and human-made music in blind tests. This highlights why labeling and detection tools are becoming essential as AI music quality improves.
Deezer is now licensing its AI detection technology to other companies in the music industry. The company has also applied for two patents covering different methods of detecting unique signatures that distinguish synthetic content from authentic music.
