Google has been busy adding Gemini AI across its entire Workspace suite over the past year, turning basic productivity apps into AI-powered collaboration tools. But there’s a catch with all these AI features: they only work if people can actually find them.
To solve this problem, Google is moving the “Ask Gemini” prompt box to a much more visible location in Google Meet’s desktop interface. The AI assistant is getting a new home in the bottom-left corner of the main video calling screen.
The change addresses a real usability issue that has plagued AI adoption in workplace tools. When Ask Gemini first launched in Meet, users had to hunt for it. The feature was buried behind a small icon in the upper-right corner that only appeared when you hovered over it. For busy employees jumping into calls, it was easy to miss entirely.
By placing the prompt box in the bottom-left corner, Google is treating Gemini like a core part of the meeting experience. The new location puts the AI assistant directly in your line of sight, encouraging more active use during presentations and team meetings.
The move reflects a broader shift in how companies are thinking about AI integration. Early AI tools often felt like hidden extras, but Google is now positioning Gemini as an essential meeting companion. Despite the visual change, Ask Gemini’s capabilities remain the same. The AI assistant continues to work as a real-time meeting helper that can:

Since this is just a cosmetic update, there are no new admin settings to configure. If your organization already has Ask Gemini enabled, the new prompt box will appear automatically for your users.
Google started rolling out the updated interface to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. The change will reach all eligible business and enterprise accounts over the next two weeks. The feature works with these Workspace tiers:
- Business Standard and Plus
- Enterprise Standard and Plus
