Meta’s business AI facilitates 10 million weekly conversations as adoption surges
April 30, 2026Google’s Gemini AI assistant just became a lot more practical for everyday work tasks. The app can now create downloadable files directly from simple text prompts, letting users go from idea to finished document without switching between different applications.
This update addresses one of the biggest friction points in AI-assisted work – the tedious process of copying, pasting and reformatting content between different tools. Now you can ask Gemini to create a budget proposal and export it straight to Excel, or turn scattered ideas into a polished PDF presentation.
The feature works with an impressive range of file formats. Users can generate Google Workspace files including Docs, Sheets and Slides, plus Microsoft Office formats like .docx and .xlsx files. The system also supports PDFs, CSV files, and more technical formats like LaTeX, Markdown and Rich Text Format.
According to Google’s announcement, the process is straightforward – just describe what kind of file you need in your chat with Gemini. The AI creates the document and lets you download it directly to your device or save it to Google Drive.
This move puts Google ahead in the race to make AI assistants more useful for actual productivity tasks. While other AI chatbots excel at generating text, they typically leave users to handle the formatting and file creation themselves. Gemini’s new capability removes that extra step entirely.
The feature could be particularly valuable for:
- Small business owners who need quick reports and presentations
- Students working on assignments across different platforms
- Remote workers collaborating on projects using different software
- Anyone who regularly converts content between file formats
The update is available globally to all Gemini app users right now, making it one of Google’s broader AI feature rollouts in recent months. This signals Google’s strategy to make Gemini a central hub for productivity tasks, rather than just another chatbot.
For businesses already using Google Workspace, this integration creates a smoother workflow between AI assistance and existing document management systems. It also reduces the need to jump between multiple applications during the creative process.
