I gave Playlistable a whirl over a coffee-fueled morning, and I kinda like it as it’s like having a DJ who gets you. This AI tool, hooked straight into Spotify, churns out personalized playlists faster than I can down my latte. You tell it your mood — say, “chill vibes for a rainy day” — or pick a favorite song or artist, and boom, it spits out a 50-song playlist tailored to your taste. I tossed in “Tame Impala” for an Artist Match test, and within seconds, I had a playlist brimming with psychedelic rock and dreamy indie tracks that felt like they were pulled straight from my soul.

The interface is slick, almost too easy to use. You log in with Spotify, type a prompt or select a song, and Playlistable’s AI (powered by Claude 3.5 Sonnet, if you’re curious) does the heavy lifting. I loved how Song Match took my pick of Radiohead’s “Creep” and wove a playlist with moody, atmospheric tracks that hit just right. But, I’ll admit, one playlist I tried for “upbeat pop” threw in a couple of head-scratchers — think random country tracks. Not quite the vibe. Tweaking the playlist was a breeze, though, just a click to add or ditch songs.

What caught me off guard was the discovery aspect. Playlistable doesn’t just recycle your Spotify history, it tosses in new artists that feel like they’ve been hiding in plain sight. That said, it’s not flawless. The genre range can feel limited if you’re into obscure stuff, and there’s no offline mode, which stung when my Wi-Fi crapped out mid-commute. Compared to Songburst, which focuses on original music creation, or Moodify, which leans heavily on mood-based curation, Playlistable’s Spotify integration and speed are its superpowers, but it’s less versatile for non-Spotify users.

Pricing-wise, it’s freemium with a free trial, and the paid plans feel reasonable compared to similar tools, though I won’t bore you with numbers. My only gripe? The occasional mismatched song makes you wonder if the AI’s trying to troll you. Still, it’s a blast to use. Try starting with a specific song you love to see how the AI builds around it. Experiment with vague prompts like “summer road trip” for fun surprises, and always double-check the final playlist for any rogue tracks.
