Standalone voice dictation apps charge $12 to $15 a month. Fireflies just made that argument much harder. The company announced Fireflies Talk, a voice dictation tool built directly into its desktop app, available to all users, including those on the free plan, with no usage limits.
The feature works across any text field on Mac or Windows. Users hold a key, speak, and release. The text appears wherever the cursor sits, whether that’s an email, a Slack message, a CRM field, or an AI prompt. It strips filler words automatically, formats output to match the context, and even converts spoken names into Slack @mentions. It supports 90+ languages and stores dictations locally on the device. Fireflies doesn’t retain copies, and the audio is never used to train models.
This is a direct shot at tools like Superwhisper and Wispr Flow, which have built subscription businesses around exactly this use case. Fireflies is absorbing that functionality into a product 20 million people already use across one million organizations, including teams at 75% of Fortune 500 companies. For many users, that removes any reason to pay for a dedicated dictation app.
But the bigger picture here is platform consolidation. Fireflies started as a meeting notetaker, then added an Email Assistant and Voice Agents. Talk is the next piece. The company is clearly building toward a single AI assistant that covers the full workday, not just meetings. Each new feature makes switching costs higher and the standalone alternatives harder to justify.
Fireflies Talk is available now on Mac and Windows. Mobile support is coming later.
