Google Labs has introduced Dreambeans, an experimental app that promises to end the endless scroll by creating personalized daily stories using AI. The app taps into Google’s latest AI capabilities to curate content that connects users with what matters most to them.

Unlike traditional social media feeds designed to keep users scrolling indefinitely, Dreambeans offers a finite collection of AI-generated stories. The app uses Google’s Personal Intelligence and Nano Banana 2 technologies to analyze data from Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search history to create these personalized narratives.

This launch represents Google’s attempt to address growing concerns about digital overwhelm and information overload. As users increasingly seek more meaningful online experiences, tech giants are exploring ways to make their platforms less addictive and more purposeful. Dreambeans fits into this broader trend of “intentional technology” that aims to enhance rather than hijack user attention.

The app works by connecting dots between different aspects of a user’s digital life. For example, if Gmail shows a delivery confirmation for pet treats, Dreambeans might surface training tips and suggest dog-friendly restaurants based on calendar entries about friends visiting. Each story includes unique illustrations that reflect the people and places users interact with most.

Users can dive deeper into topics that interest them, with the app pulling information from across the web to suggest actionable next steps. The system learns from user feedback, allowing people to tune their story preferences and add context about new interests or hobbies that might not be reflected in their digital footprint.

Privacy controls remain in user hands. While Dreambeans works best with all Google apps connected, users can choose which services to link. The app requires at least one connected service to function. Importantly, privacy choices made in Dreambeans don’t affect settings in other Google AI products like Gemini Apps or AI Mode.

The timing of this launch is significant as Google faces increasing competition in the AI space from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. By creating practical applications for its AI technology that integrate deeply with existing Google services, the company is demonstrating the advantages of its ecosystem approach. This could help Google maintain its competitive edge as AI assistants become more commonplace.

Dreambeans is rolling out today for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older in the United States, available on both Android and iOS. Other users can join a waitlist through the app’s website using a personal Google account. This limited rollout suggests Google is taking a cautious approach, likely gathering user feedback before a broader launch.
