Developer of humanoid robots that autonomously handle household chores and real-world tasks
Figure AI is a company building general-purpose humanoid robots, with Figure 03 as its current flagship model aimed at household and light commercial tasks. The robot stands roughly five feet six inches tall, weighs about seventy pounds, and includes twenty-six joints for human-like movement. It relies on Helix, an end-to-end AI system that processes inputs from multiple cameras and tactile sensors to enable autonomous task execution without scripted sequences.
Helix integrates vision language models, speech recognition, and full-body control. This setup allows the robot to handle chores such as folding clothes, loading dishwashers, watering plants, and tidying spaces. Recent demonstrations show it operating in real time, adapting to errors, and using voice commands naturally. Battery runtime reaches up to five hours during active use, supported by an onboard custom pack.
The design emphasizes fine manipulation through dexterous hands equipped with fingertip sensors sensitive to very light forces. Palm cameras help when objects block the main view. These features give Figure 03 an edge in handling varied household items compared to more rigid industrial designs.
Competitors include Tesla Optimus, which targets broader manufacturing scale and lower eventual costs, and Agility Robotics Digit, focused on logistics workflows. Figure 03 differentiates itself with stronger emphasis on home environments and integrated reasoning. General pricing positions it as a premium option, reflecting advanced onboard compute and AI development.
Users appreciate the smooth locomotion, natural gestures, and ability to correct mistakes mid-task. Limitations appear in complex multi-step jobs or slippery conditions, where occasional human help is still needed. Full unsupervised multi-day operation in unknown homes remains a future goal rather than current reality.
Deployment so far targets select partners for testing, with plans to expand access. For potential adopters, begin with straightforward repetitive tasks to build familiarity. Track software updates closely, because the AI improvements drive most capability gains.
